I finding out that my daughter is obsessed with the number 5. When she is at school she has to be number 5 in line if she is not she has a meltdown. Does anyone else have there child obsessed with a certain number?
My dd gets inline and she is not number 5 she has a huge meltdown and the aid tried to change the focus on something else and of course it didnt work. So my down sat on the ground for 15min because she couldnt be number 5 and there thoery is she cant get what she always wants and needs to learn that. I am just wondering if anyone else has delt with this and if anyone else has any ideas on how to handle it.
Ask them to perform a functional behavioral assessment and develop a positive behavior plan to support compliance. It's really not about the number 5. It's about noncompliance. Yes, many kids are obsessed. Sometimes the obsessions can't be fully addressed with behavioral therapy but only go away through medication. However, behavioral therapy should be tried first. Numbers is a common obsession. Sometimes it's important to pick the battles, though. If your daugther is mostly compliant, perhaps the school has to go along with the obsession so as to not make it worse. Get the school psychologist involved.
