Evie's been initiating social exchanges with peers (if awkwardly) for a few months now. Abbie really hasn't done this as much.
Yesterday, at the museum, Abbie had a beautiful, perfect little exchange with another little girl standing in line (who was only about 2.5, 3 at the oldest - I wonder if that had something to do with Abbie's willingness to initiate).
Abbie: Hi!
Isabella: Hi!
Abbie: What's your name?
Isabella: Isabella.
Abbie: Isabella? That's a cool name!
Isabella: What's your name.
Abbie: My name is Abigail, do you want to play with me?
Isabella's mom: Time to go!
I was so proud of her :)
I know - I loved it when she said "That's a cool name!" - so cute! She said it with a lot of excitement, like she really thought it was such an interesting thing, and the other little girl was happy with her response. I thought she was going to say "that's a funny name", but she didn't. Maybe she's learned something.
I know that when we did the evaluations for the new school system, we wrote that Abbie could not have any sort of back and forth converstation, even with us. She was just turning four at the time. She's still not great, but she can definintely do a little conversation at this point - so, since Brett is currently talking, some conversation skills might be forthcoming, especially if he can converse with you (both Abbie and Evie conversed with adults and older children before they tried it with peers).
Awesome!
Wow Fred, that is awesome! Tony at 12 is still very stilted in conversations; and his initiating them is still pretty non-existent. Give her a big high 5 for all of us!

That great Fred... She is making such progress.. That is so cute.. When she said That is a cool name.. my son is almost 4 and he does not like talking with other kids.. He tells me you ask them.. IF he wants to talk to themm.. It will get better I keep telling myself.. Good job!Nice job Abbie!! Sarah gets just about that far and then goes other directionThis isn't something that we've been working on, either. They might be working with them at school for this kind of thing, or she might just be picking it up, don't know.
It was cute though :)
No kidding! Well done Abbie
