Schools in CA? | Autism PDD

I don't think there is a Help Group school in Orange County.  I'd suggest contacting the school district in the Orange County area you are interested in, and see if they can make any recommendations for private schools.  Can I ask why you don't want to try public school, where services are guaranteed?  I'm sure there must be some excellent school districts in the OC, no?

Edited to say that the only Help Group campuses are in the San Fernando Valley and Culver City, but you could call the Help Group, and see if they know of any appropriate schools in OC.  BTW, I live in north Los Angeles (SFV), and my parents live in Newport Beach.

They are the only one I know of.  Most of us have trouble with commuting.  We have to deal with the public schools and force our agenda at an IEP to get services and contact the county regional center for assistance.  The public school system doesn't want to spend money on our kids, they'd rather they get in trouble and kicked out and not have to deal with them.  It takes a good IEP to protect their rights to a free and appropriate education in a least restricted environment because you know if they are being bothered they're going to react.  If you can fork out the money for a private school, I would.  They should have small class sizes with theraputic education for their needs.  Good luck!

I am looking for a private school in Orange County, CA to send my 5 year old autistic son to. I have called a few places and they all have denied my son. Any suggestions would be a great help! Thank youThank you for your input!

You might also want to tour some of the public schools in your area and see what kind of special ed services they provide.  All schools are different, so it helps to look at several, and talk to the Principals directly so you can scope out the best schools as far as special ed services go.  You might be pleasantly surprised and find an excellent school for your son's needs in the public school system.  My son has always been in public school and is doing great.  You just have to be diligent in making sure you find a school that can properly support your child's needs.

check the website www.tacanow.com for autism services

There is also the Pyrimid Autism Center in Orange. You may try calling Orange Unified and talk to special ed. services there.  I know of a child who is placed in private, thru them, though I don't remember the name of the school.
