Ok this is really strange. I got a check in the mail last week for almost 0.00 for Gabriel from SSI with no explanation.
We applied in November. Today I get the awards letter saying the month of Nov we were not eligible, December we are, January and Feb we are, March and going forward we are not????
We make the same income every month. DH's paychecks are the same every two weeks and he has been at his job over a year. I looked at how they calculated our income and for some reason in March they have it about 1500 more then the previous three months??? One of the people i talked to over there said it had something to do with getting paid three times a month and not twice but if that was the case then we should be eligible 10 out of the next twelve months right????
I tried to call SS but our case worker is out until the middle of March and i left a message for another person who they transferred me to after getting bounced around.
We really need this income and i cant figure out why they increased our monthly in March...
I am so frustrated I cant get anyone on the phone. Add this to the medical collection notices that came in the mail again today and it makes for a pretty crappy day
Anyone ever gone through this? Thanks in advance
I've been getting SSI for the past 5 yrs and I've never heard of receiving payments several times per month. I usually get my check on the 1st, with the exception of holidays or weekends. As for the rest of the money you think you might receive, I'd wait a bit. When the boys first started getting it I would get checks in the mail a bit at a time till the "retro" amounts were paid in full. If you don't see anymore after a week or two try and send something in writing. I learned my lesson with that. When I first applied I stated that my mother was helping me with a little grocery money each month. Even though I have told them numerous times I haven't gotten that in years from her they still have that info on my file. So, when they calculate what the boys will get it's not correct. Ugghh, so yes, I'd write a letter if you don't get to talk to someone soon. You could even fax a letter.I wonder if SSI is just like my county's system. I get letters all the time that don't make sense. I just have to keep emailing and calling to make sure of what other paperwork they need to fix them problem. Good luck to you.
MommaNiki
i know if your single you can only make under 2000 a month and 3000 thousand if your married ...i hope that helps you !!!!
you saying i can make an income of 3000 as couple and still not affect the ssi my son gets?An update on us since i first started this topic.
Gabriel has become eligible starting April 1st until either our income or housing changes.
We have an income of over 4800 a month and are a family of five. We dont get a whole lot but I am thrilled he gets medicaid since we have crappy insurance!
My younger son who is also pdd has not had a determination yet. It has been over six months since we applied and this past week they called us for updated information. How long can it possibly take to make a decision????
Now, I have a family of 4, single mom, and was told because I make over 00 a month I am ineligible! I don't get it! I believe the "cut-off" for income is dependent on family size, the number of eligible children, and the actual diagnosis. I believe it varies by circumstance, though there are specific criteria to meet. Can't say for sure as I am still waiting on it, I applied in January (separated, soon to be divorced, no income at all, only one child, with a formal diagnosis of autism) but they did tell me it was just a matter of paperwork in my case, that I was sure to qualify. your income has to be in the 3000 with the ssi ...hope that helpsthis its what it says on my papper work if your married you can only have the income 3000 but the ssi has to be in with the 3000..... and if your single and and get ssi for your child can make 2000 with the ssi income ... i hope that helps you ..... got to run
3 Factors to determine with SSI!
1) INCOME
2) # of people living in the home
3) ASSETS (homes, land, vehicles, stock, savings, etc.)
Example: We make 00.00 per month, have 5 people in our home, own 3 vehicles!
The first time we applied Grace got denied not because of our income but because of our Assets! SSI claimed our vehicles were worth 1) 1995 Toyota Corolla=00.00 2) 1989 Toyota 4-runner=00.00 We had to get a certified Mechanic to appraise these vehicles at their actual value: 1) Toyota Corolla=00.00 2) Toyota 4-runner=0.00(because it is blowed up and junked up in our back yard)
With SSI you are allowed 1 Vehicle and it doesnt matter if its valued at 1 million they don't count the first vehicle, but after the 1st vehicle you can't have another vehicle worth over 00.00 if your single or 00.00 if your married!
You can own your home and it doesnt matter if its valued at 1 million but you can't own a second home!
SSI told us that with our family of 5 we can make up to 00.00 per month and Grace would still get the maximum amount=3.00 but any amount over starts to cut her check!
Hope this helps!
We applied back in November, got denied, had to appeal, and then got her back-pay on March 28th. Grace got her first regular check on April 2.
Hope this helps!
You should have an answer within 5 months! If you are still waiting after 5 months get an Attorney ASAP!
I wish I could tell you. They flat out denied me. Me & Dh make too much $ to be considered even though a lot of the $ goes to Payne's meds, etc. I don't know..we were denied for income reasons onlyI can't qualify for SSI for my son b/c of income - I can't get the waiver b/c he is PDD -NOS and not autistic. That makes no sense to me...whatever though. We make good $ and do what we have to - get him to the right people, places and events. It would just make life a little easier knowing that I could get some help from the medical aspect of it...then I wouldn't have to work so hard. i get ssi and my son has ppd nos only. no other problems. you just need douments stating how delayed he is etc... and if you have him in school and gets therapy ,you need proof he gets the therapy and school he attends is special ed etc... and the IEP evaluations at the begining that my son got helped hima lot. i took the develop. ped letter with pdd diagnose, IEP evaluations, the school evaulation he had done 3 months after he started school, and a document from school saying he gets speech and ot. letter from school saying he attends 5 hours every day ... and go with all your ss cards, id's , paystubs if any, proof of where you live, what you pay... basically thats it. i took all in my interview and got accepted in 2 months. she said that when you get copy of all evaluations and testings your son has had done ..you get accpeted faster because they dont need to look into things further. my son was 15 months delayed at that point. does anybody who gets ssi knows if it can be used for a nice vacation when school ends for summer break?it goes by your pay schedule. if your husband gets paid every two weeks some months he will receive three pay checks. it must be those months you are being denied. You can usually can the 800 number and they are pretty good at answering your question. I know I dont have a case worker with ss, so I usually either call the office which can be a joke as their line is busy most of the day or I call the 800 number and ask my question. Hope this helps.Col845 is right. SSI is dependent on your income in each month, so any given month if you have a higher income (like getting paid every two weeks in a long month, or getting a lot of overtime one month) then you may not be eligible that particular month. If they said March going forward, though, then you need to follow up with them and see what additional info they need from you.
