My son just turned 6. We had a meeting today and they said they want to move him to a school that doesn't rate well. They said he needs more behavior modification. I agree but I feel he needs a better school outside the district. I am trying to go that route and will see how it goes. I am on lists for homebound services and I hope I get them soon.

They went with an IEP from the old school that would not give him the time of day. I moved here and hoped to get him into school and that is what they offered. The teacher asked for a meeting and we had that today and they offered the school.. I am going to go look on Friday am.. and we will see. His DDS case worker and myself are on the same page as far as getting him into an out of district school with more structure.

I am going out to but that book now.. you know Wrights Law.. A friend is heading there now as we talk.. lol... Thanks for listening and offering advice. You have been such a help with just the book alone... Your great and I can't thank you enough..

Tell me more about your children..and how you are so nice..

Thank.. Talk soon
Masen, you can always go on www.yellowpagesforkids.com  and go to kids with disabilities. this will pull up resources for you in your state and area. Good luck! If your son is 6 years old, why is he only going to school 2.5 hours a day?  If you feel that these hours are not appropriate, call a meeting and express that.  Tell the IEP team that you feel more appropriate services need to be looked at, and some less restrictive options as well.  Since I don't know the reasons for your son only going to school 2.5 hours a day I can't say exactly what I think you should do.  BUT, that doesn't sound like appropriate services for any child.  If all they can handle your son for at this school is 2.5 hours a day, then maybe you should request to look at other placements that are equipt to handle your son for the whole school day.  Also, asking for homebound services for a few hours a week to increase service time is also an option.  Of course, when someone comes for homebound services, you can't leave the home and still have to be available.  But, at least you can get a break from having to work with your son that many hours of the day.  If you can, share more of your son's history and why the IEP team has decided on only 2.5 hours a day of services.  Big Bad Woolf

You are so kind. I will call SSI and try and contact the Autism society here. I have been in touch with SAARK that is a autism based place and they say get on a list.. So I did. LOL.. don't know what good that will do. My son goes for dental work this am so I am have a tuff day when he wakes up. He is 96 lbs with really bad behaviors so he wears me down before the day is over.

How do you make it through your day? It must be cold in Maryland this morning. I was born in PA.. Love the east but too cold to live there...  Have a nice day and I will talk to you later..

Mtnrunner..
Masen:

call the austim society in your area? they'll have help for you. Maryland has another agency Pathfinders I think we're the only state with that resource. also find out the austim waivers in your state.

Have you applied for SSI but that's up to your income and resources. Call the Social Security Administration at 1 800 772-1212 for more information.

The big bad woolf.

I am looking for help. I can't seem to get anywhere. My son just turned 6 on the 10 of this month. He is in kindergarden. He only goes for 2.5 hours a day and a shorter day on Tuesday. I need a break I have not had a break in six years. I can't work and can't seem to get any help.  Where do you live? Hi,

I am looking for some advice. I am in AZ. My son is autistic with disruptive behavior disorder. After years of trying to get him into a school to no avail.. Then finally selling my home and moving to a different district. They gave me 2 hours a day of school .. They now have come back and said masen is not ok to be in this school due to his disruptive behavior. So, as the ONLY choice for me is to home school him or move him to a school I DO  NOT FEEL will meet his needs for behavior modifcation.. Masens needs major behavior modification and major structure i now that.. His behaviors are not violent or extreme.. help-- how do i find an advocate or how do i become and educated advocate.. my resources of dr's, etc.. have very little info for me.. and all help groups out here either do not call back or tell me the same useless info.. help-- thank you
Thank you JOYFUL for your advice, thank you..
