Good IEP - interesting info - ? | Autism PDD

Either I am missing something or I just had a good IEP.

The team members asked me what I wanted and hand wrote most of the goals based on my input.  Alex (4.5 yrs pdd-nos) will attend an inclusion preschool four mornings a week.  He will get speech (2x), occupational and social therapy each week.  Why does this sound too good to be true?

I felt really confident in the meeting.  I owe much of this to you all in this board

The school psych told me about a study they did with asperger kids.  They had special video glasses they used to find out what they were looking at (instead of our eyes) during social exchanges.  Many were focusing only on the other person's mouth when they are speaking, no wonder they can't read facial expressions.  Try this with your kids and tell me what you see.

Alex will be in preschool in the AM.  I need to work part time in the afternoon.  His current preschool is willing to take him then.  The school system has daycare, but it is not good.  Do you think it would be too much for him to do two different schools in one day?  Has anyone else done this?  Thanks for your input.

Both of mine did. But half a day was spent in a day treatment facility that dealt specifically with the autism/pdd disorders.

Nope, that sounds a lot like our IEP meetings.  My DS has done half days in school half days in day care for almost 2 years now and will have the same schedule for Kindergarden next year.  Though he is switching from PM to AM, but he has that scheduled for ESY now and really seems to like it.  he has some issues the first day at trying to figure out what the schedule is going to be but after that he has been perfectly fine.  This was reinforced by the school as Friday being a home day (since he went only 4 days to preschool) and us telling him on Fridays what his schedule was.  He already knows and looks farward to going to school all 5 days in August.
