Just wanted to say welcome to the board, i agree that the sticky listed on the top of the parents of autistic children page has a wealth of info and resources. i hope you find this board a place of knowledge and comfort, much like i do.
Thank you everyone for such a warm welcome. I will definitely do some researching thanks to your board. I really appreciate everyone taking the time to write.Hi Megsgran! Welcome to the board!
Megsgran,
Hello...I just wanted to say welcome to the board!! I have a 3yr old son Adam with Pdd-Nos. I have learned so much from coming here and everyone is so great about giving support when needed. Take care,
Karrie
Hello everyone, I am new to this site. I have just taken my 6 year old son to see a specialist because he is a toe walker. With some of the conversation the doc mentioned possible austism. The thought had never entered my mind. I was thinking of Muscular dystrophy, and other things but not autism. After reading a little bit about it, I am not so sure. My son used to get very upset if I changed his toys around, he would only show affection to me, he is terrified of sleeping alone, he couldn't tolerate formula. He used to love rice and then one day out of the blue he wouldn't touch it. And to this day won't. He's very quick to anger with other children. He dosen't seem to understand that others don't think and feel the same way he does. His game cube has frozen up on him a couple times and he comes running out of his room white as a ghost and terrified. He still wets the bed at night. I just don't know what to think now. This doctor said he will do some nuerological testing and blood work in a couple months as he is going away. I don't think I want to wait. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Most people have said these are not signs of autism but I am really confused.Good luck and nice to have you around
hello Megsgran and welcome.
my son was dx with asd a month ago. your son sounds alot like mine. my son did not sleep well at all until we put in the room with his big brother. my son did not tolerate formula he had protein sensitivity and we had to buy that most expensive stuff and he was allergic to rice/and oatmeal. we were putting into it for his reflux. my son has a fit if i move his toys around all toys have a bin or box and if something is out of place he cries for an hour and yells no, no, no.
my son use to love hot dogs. and now will not touch them. if i offer them it turns into a melt down and for a while that was the only thing he would eat.
when he plays on his playstation or computer he will just stare at it like he is lost in it and if it locks up or if he goes to the wrong screen you will know it.
I dont know what dx you will get for your son but we were not expecting asd. so just keep asking questions until you get your dx. and everyone on the board is great and full of info.
Thank you Kaviar and Tonys mom, I really appreciate your answers. We have made an appointment with the pediatrician again. I have never brought up Autism to his pediatrician because the thought never occured to me. We had only discussed his toe walking and lack of motor skill development. However this doctor has only known my son for a year. His regular pediatrician retired and I didn't have one for most of my sons first 5 years. I wish I would have been more informed because maybe he wouldn't be having such difficulty today otherwise. July 4th I will bring up whatever I can think of. I am now taking notes faithfully on things that I thought at one time were just silly habits or infatuations. Thank you all so much.
You'll LOVE this board, it's FULL of caring, informative people. We're here to help, give support, or just listen!
I hope to hear more about you & your life soon!
God Bless you all & keep you all safe!
