I was looking the MCHAT over just out of curiousity (in reference to my younger child) and I must say one question some what confused me. The question about whether or not your child likes to swing... how is that relavent?? And which is the "ASD" answer... do ASD kids not like to swing or do they love to swing?? I just didn't really understand the importance of that question??? I've met perfectly NT children on both ends of the "swing" spectrum (so to speak) MY SON DID NOT LIKE TO SWING..IT IS A SENSORY ISSUE..THE MOTION I GUESS..HIS SENSE OF DEPTH PERCEPTION IS OFF.HE RECEIVED ABOUT6-7 YEARS OF SENSORY INTRAGRATION THERAPY WHICH HELPED MORE THAN I CAN SAY. SWINGING FROM A LARGE PLATFORM SWING THAT HUNG FROM THE CEILING WAS SUCH A HELP TO HIM..NOW EVEN THOUGH HE IS OLDER AND LARGER..I AM SURE HE WOULD GO STRAIGHT FOR A SWING IF HE COULD.BEFORE THE THERAPY HE WAS NOT TALKING..SOON AFTER IT STARTED WORDS CAME FROM HIM.Some children on the spectrum love to swing, especially if they are hyposensitive to movement. Ds1 is one of them. |
