mine have never had seizures so i let them play the games etc . maybe u could ask a doctor xxxxxxIf your child has a seizure disorder, certain visual stimuli can precipitate a seizure. But if he's never had seizures, video games are not going to cause them.
HTHhey sleeplessinmn, my son also has a dx of seizure disorder.and our neruo-doc tells us not to let him play video games, or use computer for long periods of time. because the quick change in the lights on the screen can cause a seizure. we've also been warned about carnival rides also, because of the quick jerky some can cause.thanks mom2carlo
Dear forum members,
Quick question for you - do you let your kids play video games? Large screen? small screen? hand held? I know our kids are more likely to have seizures...now or later so I have been very cautious about this.
However, with summer here, Gavin (4.5 yrs) is very interested in what his big brothers are doing and of course, they want to play often.
Help! I have been telling them they can only play hand held games while Gavin is around. If they have to have friends over, I take Gavin to the park or to run errands with me. (and hope for as few melt downs as possible)
Thank you for all your wisdom, humor and help.

Dear forum members,
thanks for your replies! Gavin has not been dx with seizure disorders, so I will follow your suggestions.
Have a great day!

In some cases video games and certain cartoons can cause a seizure in a child that already has exhibited some seizures. But not in all cases. Also keep in mind that seizures can appear in a child in the teenage years then disappear completely.

My ds plays videogames to help with his fine motor and hand eye co-ord. OT suggested it. And mini ones when we have long drives in car.
I moniter the games so they will not flash, or anything... like for PS2 you can get bob the builder, winnie the pooh and nemo. They are for age 3-6 (though *I* have trouble beating the nemo, we are stuck on level one :P). The older games for the origanal Playstation are much more tame and not fl
If you do research there are okay games for kids, just super hard finding them. I found winnie the pooh and mickey mouse kitchen at Winners. Bob the builder at a second hand video store for Canadian. That's like pennies for most of you
We have the gamecube, and I let them play like, mario and whatever, stuff that isn't real flashy with the lights, and doesn't change viewpoints and stuff all the time. Aside from him deciding he's a videogame character, and running around squealing the sound effects in an eerily accurate way- we haven't had any trouble, but we don't have a seizure dx either-
