Refrences | Autism PDD

Hi Mandie and welcome. I'm pretty new to all this so my 2 cents worth isn't usually even worth 2 cents But you didn't mention how old your child is...maybe if he's 3 or younger you could contact your states early intervention clinic? They may be some help to you. I just can't understand these doctors...a mother's concern SHOULD be enough for a referral!! It's always better to err on the side of caution. I'm sorry I don't know what else to suggest besides changing doctors all together.Try the Birth to Three program in your area, it is free and you can refer yourself without your physician. It may take a little longer, but will get the ball rolling until the ped you like gets back from maternity leave.

~HollieHello everyone, I'm new here. Actually, my son hasn't been diagnosed yet because I can't find a doctor. I live in Kentucky, and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of whom to take my son to. See, I go to a group practice pediatrician's office, and he has two main peds. One agrees that I should take him to a specialist, while the other says it's normal for him to have tremors and get upset when he is around stimuli or new people. He has all of the symptoms of Asperger's, but the ped that agrees with me is on maternity leave, and the other that is substituting will not give me a reference. If anyone has any advice, I'd be really grateful, because I've been asking around on other message boards, and no one will answer me!

There are sites listed there for state by state.  That link is to Kentucky.  Hope that helps you out.  Welcome to the board and good luck.

Here is a link to the Autism Society of America's list of autism resources in Kentucky. I would suggest first calling your local Autism Society chapter, they are included in the list on the link, and ask if they give you some recommendations.

good luck and i hope you can find some one to give your dx. My son mason just got his of asd 3 weeks ago . and this board is great and full of information. so feel free to ask questions.

Birth to three programs are becoming more and more less free as more and more states start to add in parental co-pays for visits.

Deerhart,

My goodness it makes me wonder what state you live it!!!!  That is crazy making parents pay a co-pay for a program that  should be free.  I mean....thats the point isn't it?  For the state to make sure that the child is getting the proper education???

I think with some states they are making parents that can afford to pay, to pay.  It is part of the budget cuts that all states are facing.

P.S.  I know the gov here in Minnesota wanted a state sponsor casino to pay off debts but I believe that died. Lol, funny they would find the money for ballparks but that is another thread for another forum.

I know Illinois has parental co-pays and here in MO they are implementing them (basically the only way to get out of them is if your under the poverty line).  In both states Ithink the co-pays range from 5-100 a month, but still there are many parents who the state may think can affrod to dish out - who really can't.

I forget how many states they said back in March when the whole debate over our EI program was going on, but MO was in the minority for not having parental co-pays for services.  What was even worse is the state was going to force insurance companies to cover some therapies and make the parents pay the insurance co-pays as well (they finally dropped it to the state paying the copays)

Yes our new governor ran this on the campaign that Donald Trump could move here and get his child free therapy! (the idocy of the statement was not lost on many of us who have gone through EI services, but it worked well for the general uninformed and unknowing population)

Though I suppose having a co-pay was better then the alternative which was the Gov's originally plan to totally elminate the entire EI program because it was redunant and parent's as teachers and private insurance could do just as adequate of a job *sigh*.  But, the states are pretty much free to do whatever they want with EI since its voluntary.
