I sent you a PM. Not in your area, but maybe someone that can direct you in the right direction.No body has any expereince on Long Island with where to get an avocate for a child?
I work witha family that has a child that is not on the spectrum but has been diagnosed with ADHD and ODD. I shadow the child in a regualr preschool 2x a week for 2.5 hours which is the total amount of time the child is there. She has behavioral issues and emotianal issues that are being addressed by me and have so far made great strengths.
She is now enrolled at the same school for next year 5x week half day. The problem is, is that her district is saying they cant give her a shadow full time like that which I feel is bull cause I have other kids in other districts that get that.
The district keeps telling the mom to put her in a special class but this child does not need that in my opnion. She went from 4-5 meltdowns a day to about 2 a week now. So she is making prgress and has only been there 3 months
So my quesiton is, should the mom seek a parent advocate and how do they work where do you get them from. Do you have to pay themout of pocket, are they free and where can I call to get her one.
And does anyone have a similiar case like this that thier child got a SEIT (shadow) for the full time they were in preschool?
