verbal permission for accommodations | Autism PDD

I believe she is right about not having it for state tests if it isn't a part of his regular classroom routine. However, these accommodations must be on his IEP.  That means, the IEP Team must meet and change the IEP to reflect the fact that he's getting these accommodations in the classroom.  If you send your written permission, also ask for an IEP meeting to change it on that document.  THAT is where the state will look to see if he has that accommodation, not on some permission slip or parent letter.

I just got a call this evening from my son's special education teacher. She wanted me to give verbal permission for him to have certain accommodations for testing (smaller classroom / no time limit things like that) She said without my permission for him to have it in the regular classroom, he can't have it for state tests. I asked if the state tests were comming up or something. She said no. I was suspicious of why she needs the permission now when we're already 1/2 way through the school year. What are they trying to cover up? She claims he has been receiving the services all along but apparently they must have thought it was already on his IEP but it wasn't. I asked how he reeived these services then without my signature for them. She said that it must have been overlooked that it wasnt written in though it had been discussed and agreed to. (All I have seen on his IEP has been everything is written "as needed", and they always say he hasn't needed these things). Well I told her to send something home to me to sign.

Any thoughts or suggestions about this?
