That is great news. It sounds like the boys will really benefit. That's great!I thought I'd post an update about how things are going with the new school. (kind of a follow up on the question abut laws thread that I started a couple wks ago)
The boys had their first day yesterday, and it was a great first day! I love, love love this new district! It's the polar opposite of the last one in almost every way! The teacher is very educated in ASD, and also has a daughter that has aspergers. She wasted no time getting things going with the boys. She already has a whole new plan as to what they need, and we'll be meeting in a few wks to redo the IEP after she gets to know the both of them better. She also wants to do additional testing on my 5 yo. His speech has exploded in the last few months, so his PLOP is very different now then what it was in May when the other school tested him. She was floored with all that he knows, as he is above average in many academic areas. However his language, and social skills are still very delayed. She has some really good ideas for the both of them, and I can't wait to update the IEP. The teacher is very upset about how the other school went about things. They didn't even transfer most of the paperwork over. I had to fill out all the enrollment forms, and all that yesterday when I dropped them off. The weird thing is that they also tranferred the aide that was working with my youngest. I was shocked to see her there yesterday, too. They got rid of us like a hot potato. It does seem like they're trying to cover up the whole restraint situation. No matter, as things have worked out very well on the boys' behalf. I'm very happy with their new placement! I just wanted to share the good news.
This is SO great. SOunds like this school is one you can really work with. Now may be the time to spiff up your advocacy skills with From Emotions to Advocacy. At least now you have a group you can WORK with.
I am glad the staff seems to know thier stuff!!!! I hope it goes well!!Tzoya, I will get that book when my DH gets paid. I wish I could afford it now, but it will have to wait.
Tony's mom, we never moved. The school that they are attending is cooperative which means that they all kinda run together somehow. (I don't quite understand it myself) The other school that my ds were going to said that they were getting too full, so they needed to transfer the boys to another ECD classroom in another district. We live in Kansas, though.
Good luck with your move!
Where was it you moved from and to??? We are working on a move as well, but it is from state to state (NC to DE); don't think it will get done until summer.
