DONT GIVE UP...HOPE IS OUT THERE!!

Back to Autism Information >> Next Topic

Last year my son (aged 3 at the time) was given a dx of Aspergers..he had every trait, from not eating anything but white bland food to not liking the rain because it 'hurt'... all the usual social/sensory probs you would see witht and AS kid..... It is ONE year yesterday since he started school.....You WOULD NOT think he was the same kid......most of his sensory issues have dissapated, his social side is so warm and friendly, and he will often comfort a child who is crying...he has many friends and his school work is sooooo neat. His reading is two stages above what his classmates are reading.....he has just moved into a new class with a new teacher and in three weeks they are all moving to a new school building....

He doesnt have a one to one,and is in mainstream school. he can play games and not really be that bothered if he loses or wins (this is so not how it used to be) can take turns and has the concept of empathy..... i beleive this is all possible because of the EARLY INTERVENTION and UNDERSTANDING from the school services....hes never had ANY special treatment...he has had to get on with school life...but they do have an UNDERSTANDING of HOW to treat him...and know that shuld a problem arise..hes not being a brat, but he has an issue. this is one of the biggest barriers parents face i think.

I spoke to his teacher who first did his home visit last year and she is so pleased with his progress..we are aware there are still things that 'bother' him..but no where near to the extent of how it was a year ago...you wouldnt beleive it was the same child running round now!!!

I spose the reason Im telling you this is because well Im so proud of the work the school and I have done together and the fantastic results that we have got.....and also Im so Proud Of Keenan!!!

and maybe just a lil' message of hope in there?
