Yes shakes is right.  If we knew the exact post we could discuss it better than trying to guess which post it was.

Perhaps, if you can point to the actual post that you are referencing, we may be able to verify the information. i will have you know that the majority of members post in terms of the dsm IV yet corrections are made when necessary. perhaps if you posted this where you feel the error has occurred, we may be able to research it and verify  the info in a timely manner. The descriptions on this site are very misleading in your description of aspergers vs high functioning autism - the MAJOR defining difference between autism and aspergers is the development of language - which is slower in children with AUTISM and is generally not as delayed in children with aspergers. ALL children with ASD's repeat and obsess - whether their dx is Aspergers or Autism and this is whether they are High Functioning or not. Generally speaking it is the aspergers children who have better cognitive functioning. Not sure where you got your information but I encourage you to do some research and update/correct the descriptions on your site.

Thanks for the opportunity to voice my concerns!

Hi Kirasmum...... Welcome to the board. There are many threads on this message board referencing Autism Spectrum Disorders or Pervasive Developmental Disorders. There are threads discussing the differences in Autism,  Aspergers, Childhood Disintegrative Disorder, Retts, and PDD-NOS. Whenever possible, links to the information given have been given as a resource.

AS mentioned, if you care to comment where the misleading information is posted, perhaps we can clear it up. If it is on the message board then its quite possible it was a post where someone was trying to understand the differences. If it is on the actual website then I encourage you to go here http://www.autism-pdd.net/contact-us.html (scroll down a bit) and contact the site directly. They are the only ones who can change or Edit the information there.

As you know there is a wealth of information available on the different Autism Spectrum Disorders, it is nearly impossible to include ALL info. Also,.... as you know autism is a spectrum disorder. Not ALL children do the same things. Where one child has difficulty in a particular area, another may not. So to say all kids repeat and obsess I think is false. And yes the biggest difference with aspergers is the fact that there isnt a significant speech delay where as with autism generally most are non verbal (at least in the beginning) But with PDD-NOS, some are non verbal and some have a mild speech delay or anywhere inbetween.

Would you say that Thomas edison and Albert Einstein were Hf rather that Aspergers?
Neither spoke before the age of seven.
I am also confused, as I just don't think that there is an exact defining line.
My GS has two diagnosis one HFA the other ASP.
The title doesn't make a difference, but it is a blur.

Hi!    I agree that it is a blur!!     My oldest  has aspergers and my 2nd son has HFA.   There are differences, just as there are between 2 people with the same dx.   I think you will run into a blurring of dx  many times as when these kids get older it is hard to tell the difference.     My 2nd son did have a speech delay while my first had a very large vocab at a young age, it was mostly echolalic and he could not carry on a sensable conversation.     My son with HFA actually was better at answering questions at a younger age than my son with AS.......so it  becomes  confusing.

they both share many characteristics yet have many differences.     The HFA son has more stimming behaviors that were my big eye opener!

I would say that while we all can guess at dx for people like Edison, and Einstein,  we can not know for certain what the exact dx would have been......but suspect it was somewhere on the spectrum.     We are all in the same family with these disorders being so closely related.....I personally don't think it matters which dx as long as we can get the right help and support.    I feel a connection with others who have similar disorders and feel comforted knowing there are others who share my same concerns.
I have a 14yr. old son who has asperger's and he is alot of work, just as an autistic child may be. The main differance I see is that he is verbal. He is quiet alot though. I for one believe that we are all different in some way or another. He is also high functioning. He also has adhd so that doesn't help either. At least that's what all the dr's who have saw him say. I stil think it may just be the asperger's and not adhd but I don't have a college degree so my opinion doesn't count so they say.
