hope you really enjoy vacation you deserve it. let us know how it turns out.Hi,
I am the mother of a 6-yr. old son with PDD-NOS. He is VERY
verbal, somewhat social, and very intelligent. It has been
difficult making summer vacation plans, however, because he is not
bowel trained.
Our service coordinator informed us of a camping program in our
area. It's a camping weekend (cabins or trailers available to
rent for those of us without RV's) especially for children with
developmental disabilities and their families. There are programs
specifically for the kids (which give parents some much-needed time to
themselves), the parents and siblings. My 9-yr. old son with ADHD
has been complaining lately about his brother getting away with things
he can't. I look forward to him being able to relate to other
kids who have the same feelings.
Our vacation is coming up in a couple of weeks, and we're really
looking forward to it. To be around people who understand our
child's behavior, and who can effectively deal with him will be
wonderful. I'll let you know how it goes.
Has anyone out there ever participated in this type of program? I'd like to know how helpful (or not) it was for you.
To those of you who will be embarking on the traditional summer vacation, I wish you the best of luck.
