Hey let's give the us govt a big round of applause for taking away something that gives alittle comfort to a cripplingly ill person. perhaps they'll be forced to stop growing their own suppy and be forced to pay hundreds of $$$$ for perscriptions that will hardly have the effect of something that can be grown for free. hope the drug companies have a whopping fiscal quarter coming up!!! Must be nice to have friends in high places.

Oh Go Figure! Am I wrong..... can't marijuana be addictive? So after we prescribe it to terminally ill patients now we are going to take it away?

This is probably the same article...  http://www.mpp.org/raich/

Medical marijuana: a valuable treatment for autism?
http://www.autism.com/ari/editorial/marijuana.html
Reports we are seeing from parents indicate that medical marijuana often works when no other treatments have helped. Medical marijuana may be a beneficial treatment, as well as being less harmful than the drugs that doctors routinely prescribe.

I kid you not, this is a true story!!!!!!

In Arkansas, in Arkansas County, we had this sheriff one time.  In drug busts he was suppose to be burning the marijuana crops he was finding.  In truth, he burned like 1%.  He was turning around and reselling the rest of it.  He even had his own marijuana crop!!!!!  And the only reason he did any drug busts at all was if the competition got to be too much.

I'm not sure about using med. marijauna  for autism but i have had family members that have suffered with cancer and they found it to be very helpful pertaining to nausea and lack of appetite, the reason i blame the drug companies is because the pill that is designed to cut nuasea is 5 per pill with insurance. the insurance companies see it as a luxury, not medically necessary, tell that to a woman going sick with cancer, going thru chemo and still has 2 kids and a house to take care of yet needs to feed herself to sustain energy and stamina....Now, I definately don't work in law enforcement but agree that you can tell when someone has just smoked in the car, i think the hold up is when a person is involved in an accident and tests positive, there is no way to tell if the driver was oui or if he/ she had taken part in the days before, i think that was the idea behind the statement, which is true unlike alcohol or any other waterbased drug, they only stay in your system for about 24 hrs. marijuana can stay in your system for i think a month.  i think that the chemical base, thc, can be beneficial to many people for many ailments, i think it should be looked into but i don't think that it will because marijuana can be grown in almost any climate and region, therefore it would be impossible to track. besides the govt would have no way to tax it. i think in hawaii, if you have a script for it you're allowed a certain # of plants and law enforcement makes routine checks to make sure you're not over your limit. i think if it helps people, and you can find a way to manage it, no harm no foul.

But you know if the government did legalize it, think of all the taxes they could collect on it!!!!!!!!!  We would be out of debt in one year minimum and at the max 5 years.  Unless you got someone in office that didn't know how to balance a checkbook, lol.

I'll have to tuck that bit of info away. My guy is doing OK on the concerta, but if it comes to pass that he "turns" I will think back to much younger days and remember "they don't call it weed for nothing"

I spoke with a friend in law enforcement who said that the reason the won't legalize it is because they don't have a roadside test for it like they do for alcohol. the marijuana test will show the same for days ago use as for minutes ago use. And why would they make a drug that is not addictive and is not directly involved in aggression legal. Alcohol which is addictive and aggresion increasing is legal.

I think marijuanna should be legalized, medicinally first, then flat out.

I was crying with laughter at the thought of my 4 year old son "baked" next he'd have a Dead or Phish cd going.

looking for a little light in my world today

Actually Congress has to amend the Constitution first to make it legal.  And Justice O' Conner said today in her opinion that it should be up to the individual states to set their own laws.  And no offense to your law enforcement friend but the ones I have talked to  said you can tell instantly if someone is high by the look in their eyes and the smell in their vehicle.

tabitha38509.5651273148i agree legalize it!!! so what do u do with the script go to corner n hand it to the drug dealer..lol...my g/f who was dyin of lung cancer since has passed. but she smoked it everyday til she died..it eased the pain..her elder mom wld say "god, i wish i can just get some of tht stuff n mk her feel btr..lol""my g/f n i sayin to our selves if she only knew how much really was in her room..lol...

Yes the smell of recently burned or smoked pot is pretty unmistakable, but to legally determine someone's influence is another story. there are many medical reasons why someone would act intoxicated that have nothing to do with alcohol or non prescribed drug. About 30% of the patients I see in the ER have a problem related to alcohol. Whether it's why the crashed their car, fell down the stairs, have belly pain, got beat up, or are depressed.  But just because someone exhibits these signs doesn't mean they don't have a real problem.

Accidents happen

appendicitis happens

@#$%oles happen

and life doesn't always happen as we think it should

We persevere, and you ALL help me persevere

Well, to my knowledge marijuana isn't addictive. I guess it can be if the person just gets used to the feeling or lifestyle or something, but it's not like cigs or what not. Some people just seem to have addictive personalities no matter what though. I knew a girl I SWEAR was addicted to gum. If she didn't have any she'd freak out! I think they should totally legalize it. I think the government should control it like the alcohol. Could make so much money and used in moderation (like alcohol) can be good for you and helps sooooo many illnesses. I mean "back in the day" well before my time, I was told many people kept it around, even in their medicine cabinets, for headaches. Imagine that lol. Looking in someone's med cabinet while visiting their bathroom and whoa!

its illegal over here in the uk so its never been allowed not even for medical problems . but i know a lot of people buy it illegaly for pain etc not just the people who are addicted. i personally dont smoke it (my dad was hooked and was a abusive man so i tend to connect it) but its a case of each to their own i guess xx

Ok being a child of a recovering drug addict and alcoholic I would just like to add in my lil' bit of expertise and opinion here... First off I will say this... even though I grew up untill the age of 12 with Drugs in my face.... I think marijuana should be legalized for medical purposes.   My mother used to drink herself into an oblivion for years, she has done most every drug there is... she never injected and she never did heroin... but pretty much everything else you name it she did it.  She was a horrible person to live with and deffinatly was not my caretaker, I was hers.  My mom got clean and sober when I was 12... I am now 25....she's been smoking pot for the last 2 years, but hasn't picked up a drink or another drug at all.  I still consider my mom clean and sober..... why??? Because she is ill.... My mom suffers from Gyllian Burreis (spelling?) Syndrome ... basically 10 years ago my mom caught a cold, which then turned into a pnemonia... and then her left side of her body went numb and she couldn't walk.... for months Dr.'s told her she was crazy... there was nothing wrong with her, she was making it up... that's because with GBS the paralization usually presents on the RIGHT side of the body... so they had no idea.   Anyways after going up to Mayo and finally getting DXed my mom spent the next year in a wheelchair and then gradually gained back her ability to walk.... Mom to this day walks with a limp, looks like she had polio as a kid or something.  She is tired all the time and still pushes herself.   My mother also suffers from clinical depression and an axiety disorder.  When I first found out she was smoking pot again, I was hurt and confused and quite frankly really pissed off at her... but then I realized it is helping her relax and be able to move during the day.   Now I'm fine with it as long as she doesn't do it in front of or around Zach.  GBS eats away at the mylan on your nerves... that is why she has such a hard time walking.... so I imagine it must be painful.

I personally have smoked pot TWICE in my whole life (*laughs* grow up with drug addicts and you either become one, or you become affraid to be one)... nothing ever happened *laughs*... I did it the second time just to make sure I didn't get some bad stuff or something *laughs*... I have this therory that because my mom did drugs while preggie with me I'm immune

I know that marijuana can be addictive to people... smoking a joint is like smoking 20 cigarettes at one time.... only difference is....it's literally all natural (if you make sure to grow it yourself) unlike cigarettes that are full of all kinds of chemicals... THC itself has an addictive component to it, but it is not like other addictive drugs because it's not the same kind of hold on you.... other drugs have a stronger hold on your brain effecting your personality, your emotions, your motor skills in very adverse ways... marijuana effects those things too... just not nearly to the severity.   My uncle for instance is highly addicted to pot.... He smokes all the time, at least once a day if not more.... He doesn't have any medical need for it.... just likes it.... the way I see it.... He's not hurting anyone really..... and it keeps Him mellow. *laughs*  He's tried to quit in the past and most everyone around was thinking ... please smoke a joint you jerk *laughs*

Tammy

Rachelle...

All I can say is this... I'm sorry you grew up that.... and I do understand, more than you know.  My mom might have sobered up and got clean when I was 12, but it doesn't mean she stopped beating the crap outta me *smiles* I moved out when I was 16.  My mom is a different person today, she has changed her addictive personality. It took her a long long time even after you took the drugs and alcohol away from her for her to deal with the real desease....People don't become addicts just because of the drugs or the alcohol.  Those are outlets for the abuse, not the reason for it.  Addicts are Addicts because it is apart of who they are.... it is a desease... period, finished, the end.  Addicts will be addicts no matter what the substance is.... the key to successful recovery for them is to not only take the drug, alcohol, gambling, shopping, video games (whatever thier outlet is) away from them.... but also for them to dig deep and figure out why they have to use this certain substance or what not.  They use drugs and alcohol and whatever as a coping mechanism because they don't know how.  If you just take the substance away and don't deal with the rest of it... all you have is a Dry Drunk (a term my mom uses) ... someone who still has all the same personality traits as an Addict or Alcoholic, but isn't using.  Like I said... I agree that using marijuana is addictive... *shrugs* look at my uncle.   But of all the drugs out there... pot is the least harmful and it can be benificial to people who are terminally ill.  If people are going to become addicted, they will no matter what drugs you give them.... even non-narcotic presription drugs make addicts out of people... why??? Because as I said earlier... has nothing really at all to do with the drug... has to to with the person.

I wouldnt think it would be for the Autistic person but for the parents after having a whole day to deal with it.  :)

[QUOTE=shakes352]I'm not sure about using med. marijauna  for autism but i

I vote for paxil...has 500 x's less carcinogens and has the same effect.

I'd never put those toxins in my child.

Melanie

I think using an arguement like "think of the taxes the govt could collect" is a horrible arguement to make anything legal.  I think this country has enough problems without legalizing more drugs.
