I have a friend that has a 3 year old son that has just been diagnosed with PDD. I am wonder if someone could let me know which area (s) in the country have the best schools (both public and private). Which states or areas have the best programs etc.. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
Gail, what area of VT are you in? Just curious. My hubby may retire from the military in a few years and we're trying to narrow down a few states to research in our big plan. lol Definantly want to stay in the north east, so VT would be a state to possibly consider. Thanks :)
Thank you for the information, I will forward this to my friend.
i am from ny- but live in vermont. vermont is a good state for disabilities.
i miss ny
tough state to move to when you dont know anyone, but i have been here 5 yrs and small town usa has been good to us.
There are threads on this site that dicuss this very topic in detail. If you can find it, ti provides some helpful info. Maybe some parents will be along to provide some input for you on this thread or at least know how to direct you to what is already here on the topic.Am I wrong? I did not think NC was good with children with autism but great for adults with autism.
My personal experience in NC is that schools can be hit or miss in NC. Therapies and "after school" services seem to be limited to those qualifying for Medicaid... a lot of providers do not want to talk to you if your child does not have CAP Medicaid (a special program for those with developmental disabilities).
I have only heard of a few programs state-wide for adults; all with long waiting lists. Frankly, we hope to move this summer after 12 years of frustration.

I am possibly relocating to NC. But I am trying to find out what state services are available there. So far I have narrowed down to NC, or New Jersey
I am trying to gain a more informed understanding of services available to children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder's. I am aware that the provision entitlements vary significantly from state to state.
North Carolina, is at the moment one of our favorite choices as a state to relocate to from England, UK.
I am very confused
