and could it be an autistic behavior? Like I said, my son is having an eval soon and we think he may have pddnos. He has an odd behavior that he has done since about 2. He hits the t.v.. Whenever something comes on the t.v. that he likes, he hits it in a certain way, maybe more like tapping it. He really likes to do this when the credits come on or when he sees a truck he likes. He also hits other things in the same way. Its' sort of a tapping touch, kind of with angled hands. Its something i've never seen another kid do. He doesn't always tap the t.v. but he does it at least 50 percent of the time he's watching a movie. Thanks for your help. Well, ds doesn't do that. Instead, he will turn the tv off when the first line of the credits come on or he will turn it off completely and say game over. I have cut his television watching drastically and noticed a big difference in behavior and learning. oh, nick does something very similar.. he does this handflap/ tv tap when playing video games.... his two index fingers are tapping the tv while the rest of his hands flap... when he was younger.. say 1-3 he would actually HIT the tv when something he loved was on the screen. ~Wendy~ Our daughter does something very similar. It seems to be related to which colors are on the screen. It's kind of a flap/flick of her hands, tapping the screen. She does it with most everything that she likes.Ds1 does this sometimes. Or he'll sort of stroke the screen when it's just about to come on. We put it down to him liking the feel of the static. My nephew does something similiar to the tv, he also likes to tap other things that he likes. My son slaps the tv screen with the palm of his hand at the very beginning of certain dvds.My 3 yo ds runs up while flapping and hits the tv when he gets excited about something on there. He doesn't tap it, though. I wish he would, because he hits the tv so hard that he knocks down any remotes, and dvds that sitting on top. When my son was a toddler, we put a fence around the TV area by using those toddler corrals that can set up in any configuration (Safety First makes them, I think). He wasn't hitting the TV but he was turning up the volume to the point where we were being driven crazy. So crazy, we were not using logic and didn't realize that this might be because he was partially deaf (he turned out to have about half normal hearing, but that's another story). My point is we were able to keep both the TV safe and the child safe (as well as our blood pressure down) by simply blocking our son's ability to touch the TV by using a fence. This could also be accomplished by putting the TV on one of those wall-mounted stands, using a higher piece of furniture to put it on or blocking access with another piece of furniture. I'd HATE to see any injuries come of all this TV hitting. The t.v. is really safe, it's low and in a big entertainment center that is bolted to the wall. That is a good idea about the gate though. We'd like to get a big screen tv, but not with Parker hitting it all the time. oh yeah my son is constantly doin this we have to tell him not to touch almost 4-5 times when it is on we jst try and redirect him
