IEP Pointers and Tips | Autism PDD

I have my son's very first IEP Tuesday!!!

I'm shaking in my boots any tips that have worked and what about what has not worked???

The school psychologist said the nuerologist opinion does not hold much weight since he has only seen my son once. . .He said I should get full inclusion for my son. . .

I have been writing things out should I have a list of why I do not want him in special preschool??

Our visits to the full inclusion preschool have actually been somewhat successful when my son was there he did not look for me once. He usually keeps coming back for assurance.

What therapys such as speech, occupational and behavior should I ask for????

For a boy that does not speak much I was going into walmart yesterday and I put his train magazine down in the car and He Blurted out, MOM, I want.  So I gave it to him to go into walmart the only thing is we lost the magazine. When he does talk it comes out as clear as day.

I am taping the meeting and I said I wanted to do it so I can understand everything.  I have also been told to not sign anything and ask to recoyvene ina week. . .

When I told the psychologist I was bringing my son she said I should have my mom babysit I asked the school to provide someone one. My mom was going to be in court but the trial was cancerled. If I bring my mom with me they are going to push my son on her.  If I go by myself I feel I might be eaten alive.  My brother works nightshift I am thinking of having my mom go with me and my brother watch although he will be half asleep.

Any tips for staying calm and getting what your child needs? My neighbor above who has a 16 year old with aspergers said they like to run your life.

AH. . . .So many questions. . .

Thank you all.

My son's IEP is this Friday.  All this couldn't have come at a better time for me.  You seems to help so many on this board, I am truely grateful.

Have a great weekend.

regardless if they think the opinion doesn't hold much weight, it still must be considered in the placement and when the IEP is created the IEP team must specifiy what placements were considered and give specific reaosns why they were rejected (in my son's IEP the rejection for a self contained full sped classroom was rejected because it was too restrictive for my sons educational needs, 2 years prior a integrated pre-k classroom was rejected due to a need for a smaller class size and 1 on 1 teacher interaction)
