GF IS A CELIAC PROBLEM. CF IS A DIARY PROTEIN BREAK DOWN ISSUE.  PROBLEM. IN MOST CASES DIARY EASE CAN HELP OR THE ENZYMES TO HELP YOU BREAK DOWN DIARY BEFORE MEALS.

Thank you very much for the info.  I'm doing the biomedical approach Dr. told me if there's no difference with the GF/CF we might have to try the SCD diet but I find that very strict for a 2 year old.  I still have him off dairy but when I gave him gluten there was no difference.  I also had the food allergy test done and am waiting for results.  He does have a yeast problem though. I had a OAT test done and came back positive for that.  I give him Nordik naturals cod liver oil 1/2 tsp a day along with other vitamins and supplements.  How much Cod liver oil do you give?

Yes I know that thank you

2 years ago we tried the GF diet and it made no difference for our daughter.  We heard from parents at different confrences, etc, that the diet worked even though their kids didn't have an dietary problems like leaky gut, celiac, etc.  It actually made my daughter worse, becuase she was so upset that she couldnt have certian foods that she loved and the substitutes for other favorites didn't taste the same.  She has no celiac issues, so we figured in her case, it wouldn't make much difference.  We also tried to replace diary, with no success.

We did have success with cod liver fish oil.  We started giving it to my daughter last Feb or March.  We had tons of other parents suggest it for the past few years, so we thought why not.  We thought we saw inprovement within a month, but I figured it was some wishful thinking.  But, her teachers started calling home to tell us about a series of improvements our daughter started making from March to the end of last school year.  They were all really surprised at it.  It was everything from her actually asking the teachers a question (she hadnt done this in the 2 years she was in that class), to trying to answer direct questions and her speech was slightly clearer improving her communications.  Her anxiety issues were also starting to get better, and I think that was due to her getting older and talking better.

My sister's little boy, age 3, (he is autistic) has had success with a dairy free diet.  She tried the GF diet for almost a year (she was REALLY dedicated), and when he went off it, there was no difference.  But, when he started having milk products again, his behavior changed.  So he is off dairy again.  She is now looking into herbal cleation (sp?) therapy, with the help of some doctors.  She has been reading about certian natural things that help pull heavy metals from the body and wants to start after the new year.

Hi Juls,

I found this re: your question.

"...there is controversy over contamination in fish products (in particular mercury and pesticides). I have read some research on the internet indicating that in general, mercury is pretty much never found in Cod Liver oil because mercury is water soluble and would not be found in an oil-based product."

Also, do you (or anyone else who is interested) know about AutismWeb?  Lots of bio-med parents here:

Hey Bo, I read the links, thanks for the info. But it says that Bentahancol is derived from a nut, if my son is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts he wouldn't be able to use that right? AutismWeb people would know for sure.[QUOTE=little byrd]

With regards to Cod Liver Oil - I give both my kids per doc recommendation 2-3 tsps a day of the Nordic Naturals DHA Jr.

HOW do you get them to TAKE the CLO????

Hello my child has been on this diet since August.  I recently gave him some regular pasta nad there was no difference in him at all. I'm doing the whole biomedical approach but the GF /CF doesn't seem to make any difference.

Anyone have the same situation?

Probably right - you shouldn't use it
BUT
You really should consult a specialist in this area of nut allergies.

If in doubt
err on the side of caution

We give my 7 year old 1 tsp per day, though its broken up at 1/2 tsp in the morning, then 1/2 tsp in the evening.  My sisters 3 year old gets 1 tsp per day also.  Its the lemon lime flavor from Kirkman labs.

Good luck trying the diets.  Its trial and error until you find which one works for your child.

Lena,

I have the same issues with my kids when they have infractions on the diet.  My kids definately regress when they consume dairy, but we don't know an immedicate change when they consume wheat...we just continue with the gfcf diet because it is part of the DAN protocol and we have already modified our lifestyle to do it w/o any problems.  When we do have infractions, I give the kids AFP Peptizyde by Houston Nutraceuticals and it helps break down the milk, dairy and soy protiens.  I know other parents who have had tests done to determine if they are sensitive to dairy and wheat.  Some had done the diet and saw no improvements so the DAN doc told them they could get off the diet.

I also know someone who is doing SCD, which I could never do with my kids.  She has had tremendous success.  However, I would reserve that as a last resort simply because it is so difficult.  Both of my kids have battled yeast issues and we have finally resolved them, although I feel ds might be having some minor yeast issues now.  What has worked with us and other parents was any of the following:

1.  reduce the carb and sugar intake/ even implement some aspects of SCD like use honey instead of sugar or bake with almond meal instead of the flours.

2.  use antifungals prescribed by doctor (it is good to rotate so the yeast don't become resistent to one type)

3.  rotate the probiotics (it is good to roated so the yeast don't become resistent to one type).  This made a huge difference in my daughter

4.  Use digestive enzymes.  There are enzymes that break down the outer walls of yeast, which allow the antifungal and good bacteria to kill them off.   Here is a link w/ the info - http://www.enzymestuff.com/conditionbacteria.htm

You can mix it in their drink (keep in mind some will stick to the side of the cup so you will want to add more)

I mix it with their ice cream (gfcf)

I will mix it with chocolate syrup (gfcf) and give it to them with an oral syringe.  It tastes like strawberries and chocolate.

The Nordic Natruals Co. makes chewables.  Keep in mind the DHA Jr. by Nordic Naturals has absolutely NO FISH SMELL OR FLAVOR.  That is why kids love the stuff.

With the oil, if you are already giving your child a liquid vitiamin is it safe to give the oil to them as well?? Also, help me out here, what is it that the fish oil is supposed to do? Also doesn't fish oil run the risk of containing mercury?juls35inva39067.5751157407
