KarenHi srs mom, just wanted to say welcome to the board!

Welcome srs mom!

Amber

Hello! Just joined and wanted to introduce myself.  I'm a proud mom to DS- 26 month old with autism.  He was diagnosed at 18 months. He's in the mild/moderate category. He can say about 75 words - no sentences yet. He engages in a fair amount of repetative and self-stim behavior.

He gets ST/OT & ABA. We're trying the GFCF (& soy-free) diet. We've been at it for about 2 months and I haven't noticed any difference yet.

This week we've hit the "terrible two's". Crying/ whining when we ask DS to do something/anything. "all done" are his favorite words and he uses them quite a bit!. He used to do very well in ABA but now he tantrams, tells his therapist "bye-bye" when they arrive instead of "Hi" etc. Well hopefully just a phase!

Welcome, srs mom!

My son Luke is 27 mos and was dx'd with PDD-NOS 4 weeks ago.  He is getting ST/OT and E.I. (including EI ST).  We're also interested in ABA.  Have you seen improvements in your ds from the ABA training?  (Have I used enough abbreviations?

Nice to have you join us!

srs-mom,

Welcome to the board! I have a 4 1/2 y/o son recently Dx HFA. I am always impressed with parents who catch it when their kids are so young.

My NT toddler who's 17mo favorite thing is waving BYE-BYE and bringing me his shoes. He always wants to go-go-go!

Takoda the 4 1/2 y/o likes to stay home and play on computer unless he thinks we are going back to Children's Hospital he loves it there. He is fasinated with big city parking garages it's all I ever hear.

It must be the St, Kellie, because ds is also starting to try to mimic sometimes and attempts the E-I-E-I-O of that song as well lol. So far it just sounds like nothing until the "O" but he tries! I hope this progress continues.

hey there srs mom, welcome to the board, hope you find support here and info that will be helpful to you. i know i sure did. i have 3 kids erica 12 (special needs), carlo 5 (pdd-nos) and ryleigh 20 mths (nt). take care and hope to hear from u again soon. mom2carloLOL Jacobs mom. Yes uh-oh is a big one for ds. He says it all the time. He knows other words, but the odds of you ever hearing them are slim to none. It just made me laugh when you said that because I find it so cute and endearing how ds says that.Thank you everyone for the warm  welcome!

DS also loves singing the EIEIO part of Old McDonald- LOL!

We were fortunate to have an early diagnosis, although I first took him in for evaluation at 15 months and I wish thay had given us a diagnosis then.

DS didn't have any words until 21 months. Before that, He would repeat a word for a few days and then it would be gone. Since 21 months he's been adding 2-4 words per week. He uses some of them spontaneously and others with prompting.  It just depends on what mood he's in.

We are very happy with his progress in the ABA program.  I guess technically it's a VB program. We started at 21 months. His language skill have exploded since then. He also know can label colors, shapes, body parts etc. We do 15 hours/week. I also do floortime with him and try to engage him as much as possible when he's not in ABA.

Look forward to sharing ideas with everyone.

Welcome SRS mom, My son Jakob is 22 months and was dx'd at 20 months, he also SOMETIMES sings the e-i-e-i-oooooh part of the song, that and when he drops something or falls he will say Uh-oh...that's pretty much the extent of his vocabulary so far. He was dx'd with mod-severe autism and we are mil. family in Germany working on moving back to the states to get him more intense therapy. I'm very anxious to see how he'll respond to ABA too. I hope you like it here!Welcome Sr mom!   Sounds like your little guy may be having a bit of burn out!   maybe easing up a bit on the ABA will help.....sometimes blending it with other therapies may work better to keep him interested and on task.   It is a work in progress finding what works!    Good luck to you and hope to hear more from you in the future!    bonnie
