HI MATT,
MY NAME IS LUCY I'M FROM TEXAS. I HAVE A FIVE YEARS OLD SON AND MY SECOND SON IS THREE. WHEN THE FIRST ONE WAS THREE I FOUND OUT THAT HE WAS AUTISTIC. I WASTE A LOT OF TIME FROM DOCTOR TO DOCTOR TRYING TO GET A REAL DIAGNOSTIC. UNTIL ONE DAY I DECIDED TO STOP TAKING HIM TO DOCTORS AND TO START DOING SOMTHING WITH HIM. I FOUND IN THE INTERNET HELP READING ABOUT THE SPECIAL DIET FOR AUTISTIC CHILDREN @ www.generationrescue.com THE ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION IS YES, YOUR LITTLE SON WILL HELP YOUR OLDEST ONE A LOT. I HOPE I CAN TELL YOU LATTER ABOUT WHAT I HAVE DONE IN THESE TWO YEARS WITH MY SON ,BUT I CAN TELL YOU RIGHT NOW THAT HE IS IN REGULAR KINDERGARTEN, HE'S MAKING "E" IN DISCIPLINE A HE IS IN THE HONOR ROLL. I'M SO GRATEFUL TO GOD. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME, START ACTING, BE PATIENT AND TRUST YOUR SON TO GODS LOVE.
I know your frustration with feeling like your son has made progress and then he looses/stops using little things he's learned. That is the story of our life at the moment, two steps forward one step back as they say. I think this is very typical of ASD and the age as well. We also have a younger daughter and I think Sharlet is learning things from her, I don't have any advice about toilet training except you should sit him on the loo reguarly and just stick at it, at some point the penny will drop and he will realise that he will get praise or reward for going. We are still at this stage, she has never done anything but we keep sitting her on there. Also make sure you have a little seat that fits inside the big one so he feels stable and something for him to put his feet on is really important, they really need their feet not to dangle.
