Why yes, I can relate to the asperger's syndrome! Oh, Boy
can I relate!! My soon to be 16 year old son was dx with it at
age 10 after years of searching for the right dx. I also think
my husband is affected by it as they share many of the same
difficulties and strengths. My husband is an Electrical
test engineer......one of those brainy people.....too brainy for most
of us......has trouble relating socially but really is quite successful
in his field.
My 16 yr old has done so well after years of working with a wonderful
ST on everything from understanding abstract concepts, making
conversation, answering questions, social skills, to fitting in
socially. He has also worked with PT and OT over the
years for some physical delays.
My life is kind of hectic right now so I may not be on the board much
in the next few weeks but I will check back.....I'd love to hear more
from you! you can private message me too if you like so we can
compare lives or whatever!
Glad to have another Aspie family on board!! Take care.....bonnie
Hello vivian,
I just wanted to say welcome to the board, Zachary is still getting evaluations done to correctly place Him on the spectrum.... so far everyone is thinking PDD-NOS, so I'm not of much help... but I know there are other moms on here with kids who are aspies.
Hello Folks,
I wish you all a good day today. I am wondering if any one can relate to asbergers syndrome.
Our adult son has asbergers syndrome and I would love to relate about this issue.
If anyone out there has the time, please it would be so nice to share.
Thank you.
vivian

welcome to the board stay about im sure many people here can understand xxxx
Hey there! My oldest (6) is dx with aspergers and hyperlexia. So hang in there, we know what you're going thru.
Rachelle
I believe I can relate! My son is 6 and dx'd with PDD (some asperger tendancy's, ADHD and mood disorder (not ruling out BiPolarism). We were lucky to catch things early and take action..things have been better in the last year or so but there is still a long way to go. He will be starting Kindergarten this year with help from the state and some medication for both social issues and hyperactivity. It has been a very hard road so I believe I can relate to what you must be going thru.
I'm also just starting to look into alternative medicine/diet to help with the symptoms. I almost feel that the medication is a quick fix and as a parent very frequently wonder if Im truly helping or hurting him.
How old is your son and how long have you been dealing with this? Maybe the age difference is a big one however would love to chat a little re: what you go thru, what you went thru and how you deal with it (one day at a time).
Hey Jennifer. Welcome to the board!!!
Vivian there are many high functioning kids diagnosed with PDD-NOS out there who after much therapy and treatment now have some aspergers characteristics too. My son's past classmate (and now "friend") has aspergers... my son is PDD-NOS... in some ways they are very similar.
Jennifer my opinion on meds is its everyones own choice. Personally I feel if you, the child's care givers, the school and the child can function through the day or night without meds go that route. Meds are not a cure.. they just help through the problems. If meds are needed to calm and have them focus to be able to teach them necessary skills then try the meds temporarily. However some kids absolutely can not function day to day without meds no matter what... if thats the case, then they are necessary. Each child is different, each child responds differently. what works for one, wont work for all, YOU know your child best, only YOU can make the decision. Go with what YOU feel is best and forget what others think. It is YOUR child.
Hey Vivian....Vivian,
Welcome to the board! I studied asperger syndrome because my son son has very narrow intrest and will do strange thing like look at the phonebook for hours because his loves letters.
