Visual schedule ? | Autism PDD

Hi...

Here is what we did for a visual schedule for Curtis......I took a big poster board and i wrote his schedule on it.....I then used stickers of his favorite characters ....(Thomas The Tank Engine and Friends)......to help him keep up with each one of task and when they occur.... We  then put a sticker by event when it is completed.....we alsoe use the same basic idea with getting him to do chores.....hope this helps......Good Luck....

My Daughter LOVES visual schedules and we have used lots of them over the past couple of years. There are several different ways to do them. At school they have a picture/word combo which is laminated (you know 2" square) with all the different activities..office, circle time, playground, lunch. She sets her schedules including breaks (she will also set everybody elses visual schedule given the opportunity lol). They will have velcro strategically placed throughout the room and when she does different activities..she places the velcro square..ie. Home Icon on the door when it is time to go home.

Her in home program has a schedule..ie sensory, work (1,2,3), hide n go seek (her fav. game), work (1,2,3), fine motor.. She sets that schedule too (it is also velcro squares going down the wall) but it is only written out with no pictures.

She also has the vis. schdule for teeth brushing and hair combing..step by step and this was done with a digital camera showing each step of the procedure (be sure and label the back...like a.b.c.d.e.f.g. so it is easy to put in order)

She used to have a vis. schedule for morning routine..you know..get up, get dressed, eat breakfast, brush teeth and it was more pec's like pictures. IF the school district has an autism consult or an autism consulting teacher..they will have all this stuff on computers and they will make it up for you. You just need to let his teacher know that there is a need. We have lived in 2 different states and have never had problems accessing pictures for visual schedules. Usually there are enough kids in the district who use PECS that they have several computer program. Although a home laminator is great...if you are truly low on funds..use the clear contact paper..it doesn't last as long, but still works.

Some of her schedules have been on a strip of poster board or card stock..you know about 2" wide and about 8" long with velcro on it. The pictures for the schedule have velcro too. Now she is using a schedule that is vertical up and down and the velcro is just stuck on the wall.

Good luck. I hope Carlo enjoys schedules as much as Kate(ok,,maybe not as much..she tends to perseverate, but makes life so much easier when they know what is happening next.)

Take care and God Bless, Renee p.s. feel free to pm me if you have something specific in mind. Maybe we can come up with something that works.

I would try going to different websites and seeing if they have a printout for free.  Check with your local autism society or your school too.

If you are using real pictures, not symbols, you can always use Google images. Just type in what you are looking for, and you will get lots of pictures back.
