I cannot get my son to take Nordic DHA | Autism PDD

Share

I had to gradually increase the amount over time.  I would only put a 1/4 tsp in each drink and gradually increased it over time.  Another thing you might try is to mix it in a smoothie or a shake or you can serve it over ice cream w/ chocolate syrup (nice strawberry chocolate flavor)

I used to have to do the same thing with my son. Try using a syringe, you hold the syringe and let him hold his juice. Give it to him a littlle at a time and let him chase each dose with a sip of juice until it's all gone. This worked (still works) with my son.

If that doesn't work, see if the doc can prescribe it (or another med) in powder form, you can sprinkle it in applesauce or over his waffles, and the syrup will mask the flavor.

I hope this helps.

at all.  I have the berry keen and i literally have to hold him down and force him to take it.  HE is a very strong 3 year old.  And of course most ends up on his (and my) clothes anyway

I tried mixing with juice and milk.  He can taste/see the difference

Anyone have an alternate way to get him to take it? or maybe an alternate product?

thanks in advance

I started with the liquid form first and Michael ( turning 4 this month ) did the same thing.I would slip a teaspoon or in a syringe quickly in between his meal and give him a sweet drink to get rid of the aftertaste. It worked for a few days then he started puking it out. He could smell and taste it even if I added it to food or drinks. Finally got the chewable version. He refused to chew it as well. Somehow I got lucky in training him into popping it into his mouth and swallowing it with water.I rewarded him with stickers on a sticker chart each time he did it right.

I put carnation instant breakfast powder in my son's milk.  That taste was so strong that it overpowered the taste of the fish oil.  I hope this helps. what does this help with exactly? My lilguy takes the Children's DHA from NordicNaturals. Tyeh are chewable gel caps with a strawberry burst. From day one he has just put them in his mouth and chewed them up. Even on days when he doesn't eat his breakfast, he will take his vitamins.hi, i did it in the beginning with softcaps together with a lot of sugar free gummi bears. he still could tastet it, but was very happy to get his gummibears. good luck. its hard. our son tryes from time to time to not drinking it, but we are at a point where i can go trough that with ABA. EAT that first and then you get...

Don't know if you've found a solution yet, but I mix it in with my sons yogurt, oatmeal or applesauce.  (We don't do the GFCF Diet at all

If he's not in the mood to eat one of those things, sometimes I trick him by feeding him something he likes off a spoon, like grahm crackers or cut up fruit. After he eats a few like that, I put the oil on the spoon and with the piece of snack food and he eats it without realizing the oil is there. He usually makes a face because he will taste it, but he eats it anyway.

Hope this helps!

Right now baby is pretty young, so i just squirt it in the back of his throat with a syringe and follow up quickly with some sugar. Fortunately ( unfortunately actually) he's gotten used to taking his seizure meds that way
