Lindamood Bell? | Autism PDD

Share

I've heard for years that the Lindamood Bell reading program (the part that addresses reading comprehension) is an excellent approach for PDD-NOS kids.  Has anyone had experience with it?  I am taking Jamie for a screening for it on Thurs.Connor used a method patterned by a private vendor after the Lindamood Bell method.  It was very helpful for his reading comprehension skills.

Hi tzoya,

Where in Long Island is there a Lindamood Bell reading program.

Thanks

ROslyn...I think it's the original.  They are VERY nice there.b.u.m.p.I WENT TO A CENTER AND BELIEVE ALL DISTRICTS SHOULD HAVE THIS PROGRAM. I ALSO FEEL IF THE SCHOOLS EDUCATED KIDS WELL WE WOULDN'T NEED LEARNING CENTERS. I FEEL THE LEARNING CENTERS ARE REPLACEING WHAT PUBLIC EDUCATION LACKS IN. How many hours per week.  The Lindamood Bell Center (the one near here is the original center, I believe) is recommending 2 hours a day, 5 days a week for 3 months, to start.  That would mean that I'd drive Jamie an hour to the center after he gets out of school at 2 and drive him home in rush hour traffic. I'm willing to do ALL of this, if the school district is willing to pay for it.  The full eval is only 0, but the program is going to COST. And I think I may have to go to a hearing to get them to pay.  I'd love to avoid a hearing, so I want to gather as much info ahead of time as possible.  If your child's private vendor can give you any info to give me, I'd appreciate it.  Thanks.Connor was approved by the school district for 180 hours of therapy to be used over a one year period.  He really could only handle 2-4 hours a week on top of his regular workload (he was in 5th grade at the time.  If I recall correctly, he went on Tues. & Thurs. and sessions would last 1-2 hours depending on how well he was focusing and staying on task.
