dbcmom,
I think that Punky Brewster might have been confused when making that statement. Technically speaking, a DAN! doctor isn't required to be a 'doctor'. They are mostly physicians, however, others are licensed health care professionals in medically related fields.
Dr Neubrander is a medical doctor. I believe his field was environmental allergies and nutrition.
Frankly, I think the requirements to be made a DAN! are incredibly low. One seminar is all it takes to become a DAN! doctor. To Dr Neubrander's credit, it appears that he attends DAN! conferences frequently. I do not use Dr. Neubrander, but I do believe that he is a "real" doctor and a very good one from what I hear. If you're worried about the effectiveness of mb12, I'd discuss it with the person you're seeing at his office. My understanding is that some kids do not respond either way to mb12.
Good luck :)
We are giving our ds B-complex transdermally because her won't take it orally. My dd takes it orally. We are giving the methylcobalamin (sp) B-12 via injections.

Dear little byrd- what dan dr. do you use? We use Lisa at Dr. Neubrander. I have 3 yr old PDd-he isstill nonverbal after 6 mo on shots and various vitamin regimens...I saw a comment from a punky brewster saying he isnt a real dr.. I cant find her on site to ask her why she said this... SO far, I am not sure if b12 is helping or not.[QUOTE=dbcmom]Dear little byrd- what dan dr. do you use? We use Lisa at Dr. Neubrander. We are in Florida and there are are several DANs in our area - Buckley Bradstreet, Rossignol, etc. I'm going to PM you with more details.
I believe that the mb-12 isn't effective with a small number of children. It happens when you treat kids who vary in symptoms. I wouldn't listen to Punky because Dr. Neubrander is a very respected DAN, from what I hear from parents who have children treated by his office.
I think what people have to understand is that parents play a very vital role in the DAN protocol. We are the ones that tell the DAN docs if something is or isn't working. We make the commitment to make sure our kids are on the protocol. I know that Dr. N. asks for parents to stay on the mb-12 for a certain timeframe before taking the child off so you might want to contact Lisa and ask about that so you can move on to something else. Something else to remember is htat mb-12 is extremely important in building/ improving the methylation process withint he child's body. One of the side effects is the increase language and receptive skills. Both of my children respondedd, but I know some kids who have not responded to it or could not handle the injection.
