I just about fell over! | Autism PDD

wanted to share an exciting thing Owen did last night.

We had dinner at my mothers. A while after dinner he kept bringing me to the door. Which he does all the time because he is facinated with closing doors, so he takes me to them to open so he can close them again. Of course this was the front door, and we don't play with that one. I kept telling him no. Then my mom says, maybe he wants to leave. I didn't think so, he has never done that before..So I bent down to him and said. If you want to go, "where are your shoes?" He took me by the hand and we walked to the front door, He let go of my hand and PICKED UP HIS SHOE!!! he brought it to me. I took it and said "sit down" and I pointed from a distance to the stairs. He walked backwards and SAT his little tush on the stairs and raised his foot up to me.

This is just unbelieveable. My mom and I were in shock! Cheering away GOOD BOY!

I didn't know he knew what shoes were. I label all the time of course....and to sit down I usually have to sit him down. Sometimes he will sit if I tap the chair or where I want him to sit, but this time he sat just for me pointing and saying it. So he must know what sit means now!!

We are in the middle of a spurt right now. He walks around immitating sounds I make...as long as they are vowel sounds, has learned to do the actions to *head and Shoulders* song, and just seems so much more aware of what is going on around him. I pray it continues!

Sounds like my day w/ Aiden on Thurs. That's great that he was understanding and reacting to what you said. Its funny as when dd did things I told her to i never thought twice about it, but w/ ds I almost throw a party. I hope it does continue. Whereas mine hasn't. I mean Thurs went so well that I swear I had decided Aiden was totally nt and fine. Now Im not sure again. But I'll take days like that any time even if only for that day.
