LIQUIDS ABSORB BETTER CAUSE THEY GO STRAIGHT TO THE BLOOD. THEY CAN BE ADDED TO DRINKS ALSO. IF IT'S A SOFT GEL OPEN IT UP AND RUB AT THE BOTTOM OF FEET. THIS WORKS THE SAME AS TAKEING IT BY MOUTH. I WISH THEY WOULD MAKE ALL SUPPLEMENTS/MEDS. WHERE THEY EVAPORATE IN THE MOUTH. Isn't there some sort of powder that can be added to foods to achieve this? Maybe I am thinking of protein, but I thought it was for fat too. You might could do a google search.I think fish oil if they can tolerate it

I know you said dairey-free, but i have my son off cows milk and I tried GOATS MILK. It is owesome!!! My ds is doing great, plus I have him an all organic diet and some gluten-casein free. My son has malabsorbtion. He is sensitive to certain things and it affects his behavior in an aggressive way. He's been underweight, most of his life. He had problems with formulas as an infants and constipation and diarrhea. I always thought he had digestive problems and then I took him to GI TRACT DR and found out about the malabsorbtion disorder. We're not sure yet as to which one--we're still in the process. Does this sound like you? I don't know anything else besides, olive oil, and goats milk. They have me to up the calorie intake. Have you tried peanut butter?
Also , don't always listen to ones that say, all these things may not work. I give my son supplements and I'm seeing his aggression approve. Diet and supplements can make a difference. Sometimes its trial and error.
I give both my girls Omega 3 fish oil daily. If you buy a good brand, like Nordic Naturals, there is absolutely no fishy taste. We buy the lemon flavored and they lick it right off the spoon.
An avocado comes to mind also, but I'm not sure if your twins can tolerate it.
Boo-hoo to those nutritionalists. You'd think that even if they don't believe in something (due to research or lack thereof) they'd at least be a little more supportive of your decisions. Obviously, you aren't doing this diet for the pure joy of it...it's to help your children. I'd shop around for someone more conducive to your beliefs. Maybe a homeopathic doctor of some sort?

i HATE PEOPLE WHO DO NOT RECOGNOIZE CERTAIN ISSUES.
what do you mean by bad stools? if it is soft, just split the dose and with time it will get better. It could be happening as they have never had it before, it's a new thing and the body needs to adjust. My stepson has constipation issues but since we that is (45% care time) give him fish oil he goes to the bathroom everyday. Also make sure it is mercury free, very important.
I have started giving the twins cod liver oil. They are having really bad stools though-does anyone know why that could be happening? I don't think it's common to have a reaction from cod liver oil but I really don't know. I have been able to give them peanut butter with nofenol enzyme by Houston. It is working but they still aren't gaining much weight.
My daughter had a little reaction bathroom wise to the cod liver oil too. I found that if I cut the dose in half, gave her half the dose in the morning before breakfast and the other half before dinner she was fine. So she was getting 1/2 tsp, 2x per day, instead of one tsp, 1x a day.
Thanks everyone-
The cod liver oil is working well now-we just lowered the dose a tad bit. We are using peanut butter with enzymes and olive oil in their chicken daily to give the twins their fat intake-so it's working out better. They are thin but not sickly thin so I think I am doing a good job. We are getting metabolic testing and genetic testing done this month so I will fill everyone in. We are going to see a doctor about their leaky gut syndrome too so if anyone else has any experiences with that please post a comment! Thanks, Chrissy
I use canola oil and also Fleischman's unsalted margarine which is dairy free.If they aren't picky about texture,,,I add fresh ground flaxseeds to my son's orange juice in the am...they have alot of fat in them (good kind) and those Omega 3's...nuts are a good option too--lot's of fats--try walnuts/almonds/sunflowerseeds...you can try them raw and whole, with salt, roasted, ground up ,etc...
and as one person already posted,,you might want to try goats milk...sometimes people who don't tolerated regular cow's milk, do ok on goats milk....
good luck!!
