Carbone behavior management program | Autism PDD

My grandson's school district is proposing to use a behavior management program based on the work of Carbone. The techniques seem to be punitive and harsh to me but I've read positive opinions on this site. Does anyone have long-term experience with Carbone that could comment on results. Is the punishment worth it?

Michelle Yes.  Punishment in the traditional sense rarely works with ASD kids from what I've seen.  However, there are disciplinary techniques that do.  If you post the specifics about what the school is proposing to do, perhaps we can give you better input.Just remember, Skinner kept his own children in a box.....
probably only funny to other psychology majors out there...MamaKat - haha, only his daughter and from what I've heard she actually grew up into a well adjusted woman. Oh dear. I was only making a joke. I'm so sorry that I offended you. I have
spent too many late nights studying. I'm working on my master's in
psychology, while single parenting my autistic son. I am tired and never,
ever meant to make you fell like you weren't being taken seriously. I
apologize. You came here looking for advice, and I made a joke--totally
inappropriate. Won't happen again.(mamakat)...

No apology necessary...I was actually giggling at your post...just didn't want Michelle to think that "the box" was a standard protocol...

Good luck with your education...you have a lot on your plate and I wish you the best...
