Hello all, I'm a Sp. Ed teacher in RI. I have a good friend living in FL who has a beautiful 3 year old daughter diagnosed w/ autism. She went to visit her local school today and it was nowhere near appropriate. As I'm not there and not familiar w/ FL law I need some insider info to pass along to her. She's getting ready for her first IEP meeting and is feeling nervous...here's what I need to know:
-Is there access to free sp ed advocates in fl? if so, how does one go about contacting them?
-she's retired military, husband is active. Any military families out there that may be aware of benefits that may help?
Any and all info you may be able to provide to help would be greatly appreciated.

Where does your friend live?
There are CARD offices here--(Center for Autism and Related Disabilities) that provide support--help with IEP meetings, loan out books and materials, PECS supplies and support groups.
