Simply because you have a medical diagnosis, that does not mean that those services "must" be given to you.
Hello all,
I have posted several times about my concerns with Collins school placement.
We spoke to his teacher the other day regarding our concerns. We told her how his behavior at home is magnifying intensly on days he is at school. And we think in part it is because of the unstructured nature of his schedule. He goes 4 days a week at different times with two seperate teachers and seperate students. The classroom aids are the same though (which the school is trying to use as saying its not unstructured). Well when we informed them of this they said that because he is on 4 days this is all they have. Most kids only go two days ??? And that they dont have a teacher who works 4 days at the same times with the same students. Wouldnt this be what is needed for a student that needs structure?
Of course they never fail to mention several times in each conversation. That they just dont see these behaviors at school.
So anyways. I spoke to his speech pathologist on Tuesday and she thinks he definately needs 4 days and structure. So I am going to have her write up a letter. I am also going to contact his developmental ped and his ot to have them write up a letter.
I have been keeping notes and records on everything. And I even have a list of our concerns, video of collin, ect
What should I bring what should i do? Should I contact an advocate as well? I dont know if this is going to be an ifsp meeting or just a get together they never really stated. But obviously its a meeting to get out our concerns and try for better placement. Although they state they dont offer what he needs. But if they dont offer it shouldnt they have to pay for it? of course thats if they agree, but do you think they would agree with written letters from all of his dr.s and therapists.

If, after this meeting, you cannot get satisfaction, table the meeting and bring an advocate with you when it's reconvened.
