| We just started a new in home ABA program and I think I am excited?! I am unsure if the costs are justified and if it will help. He is doing well so far- he is attending OT and ST once a week through private and in home 2 X a week through EI. He is making better eye contact and increasing verbalization already but he still stims alot. Any thoughts on your home based ABA experiences? He will be doing about 6-10 hours a week eventually. I'm 6 months down the line and finding it really tough going. The ds is constantly giving his instructors the run-around he doesn't want to co-operate and is always trying to get into power struggles with them. HOWEVER - he has learnt SO MUCH his asd traits have improved dramaticaly. The year before he started his dev was painfully slow now he's really coming on leaps and bounds. The co-operation issue is a real challenge for me- I hate to be bossy I'm an indulgent kind of mum and that's not what my boys need really. But I am so glad I went for this... his bro missed out on ABA and although he's doing good I can see where ABA would have helped him. It's very expensive - if like me you have to fund the whole thing yourself. I decided to give it a go for a couple of months and if there wasn't a huge improvemet I'd quit. Not every child responds well and if the improvement isn't marked then it's not really worth the effort. The effort isn't just financial it's a real project you're getting into. Anyway GOOD LUCK and if you get as much from it as I and ds then CONGRATULATIONS are also in order |
