Hello my Friends
Tomorrow (May 26th) will be a very sad day for my 9 y/o HFA Son Tony. You see tomorrow is the last day of school, which would normally be a YAYYYYY!!!! But since he has to change schools, it isn't. He's been going to this school that he's attending now since kindergarten, he LOVES it there, & they ALL LOVE him! But we bought a house last year at the beginning of the school year & moved, well since I'd already signed him up for the year in August & we didn't know that we had the house until September, they let him keep attending the school that he's at now. But the new school year this coming August he will have to attend the new school in the district we now live in. They're having a lil ceremony for all the students tomorrow at his school now, & he will be getting quite a few awards as he has done really well this year (THANK GOD). He also had perfect attendance this year, which is saying alot for him, because he catches everything coming & going! He's very sad about leaving his school, but we keep telling him how good it'll be at the new school, because he'll make new friends & all. Of course, that's of little comfort to him at this point. We even had him get the phone numbers & addresses of his closest friends at the school where he is now. He's been through so many changes at the school he's leaving. As I look back, he REALLY HAS come a long way! But he'll be going through more changes at his new school (mostly good ones, I hope). We won't let him know that WE'RE sad too, but it WILL be a sad day for all of us tomorrow (May 26).
On the BRIGHT side though..... SUMMER VACATION....YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Please feel free to PM me about anything! I LOVE getting e-mails & PMs! Hey MWN I can only imagine ho your son is taking things. My son's school is re districting him and he will have to leave behind all his security an dhis only friend for a new school (he doesnt like changes) and he is having a miserable time dealing... I may post about this later..... But lets say for now he was picked up from school after lunch and wont be returning this week.... NO he wasnt suspended. Hope he does alright with the change you have many supports in place for him. I wish I had some suggestions but our situation isnt good right now either! GOOD LUCK and Congrats to him on his awards!
How does the new school look?? Have you had a chance to talk to them?? I would point out to him that somewhere, at this new school - is a friend waiting for him. Someone that will be lonely without his company, someone that will not be able to hear his jokes or just have fun playing together. New is hard to adjust to - its scary and the thought of getting lost kinda makes one feel panicky. But it's also an opportunity to be bold and explore. I never really cared much about meeting new people or teachers, but the chance to explore or find a new friend intrigued me. New books in the library to read and such.. but it's also nice to have something familiar ... something the same at both the schools.. I wish you well. Deb :)
