O.K. heres a weird theory and something to think about. Since our children are sensitive to sights, sounds, smells etc. Could they possibly be more in tune with the spirit world as well? Bear with me here, no I'm not nuts....My son has a picture of his deceased great grandfather that he carries around alot at times. He has never met this person but smiles and giggles whenever he sees his picture. He doesn't do this for anyone elses picture. He also will look up and follow "air" around the house. He waves to things that I can't see and says "bye bye" He wakes up in the middle of the night and laughs like someone is playing with him then will abrubtly start crying and saying "all gone". Weird? Whats everyone elses take on this? I know its a strange topic but humor me.....

Actually my g/f believes this... that he two kids are more intune on the psychic level...

I'm not sure what I believe... in a spiritual sense.... so really can't offer much.

Just wanted you to know that someone else believes it too!

My girls do this too. They carry around pictures of not only the 2 grandpas they remember( they died recently) but also pictures of my mom and dad. They never met my mom but tells me that she stays with them at night so they are not so afraid. My 4 year old came up to me and said "mommy the voice said I love you Katiedid" Who is that mommy. That is what my mom called me when I was young- no one but my sisters and brothers know that and they were not here. They said that the innocence of children make them more aware of spirits and such. I know my house has several spirits staying around. I have seen 4 myself and hear another one. From time to time I see and smell my mom and dad. I know this sounds crazy but it is true. The pureness and naitivity of children opens their world to wonderful things that as adults tend to shy away from because of fear and other reasons.

Sorry to get off subject this is just a subject that I have seen working- my neice swears grandmas helped her out of the house  and across the street  the night the house is on fire. sorry for the spelling errors!

I agree with Kathy that the pureness of children makes them open to those kinds of things. When I was a kid I saw some spirits but didn't know what they were becasue no one ever taught me to fear them or to question it, as I got older and learned more from society I saw less and less spirits, I believe my DD has this gift, she always points out people in graveyards when no one is there, freaked my DH out I know people look at you strange when you say these things but I truly believe it does happen.

I absolutely believe this.  Check out Bill Stillman's website, he actually has a book coming out discussing this very topic.

Yes, I am with you on this, too.  Our Alex is very, very, unusually calm and serene - strange, I know, for any kid, let alone one with PDD.  He is lively and responsive, but can also be happy in his own little world.  I have thought since his birth that he was very much otherworldly.  He is nonverbal, so I don't know what he thinks about.  But he always seems totally at peace.  His presence is very soothing.

I'm glad you brought this up because I often wonder if his diagnosis has much to do with this unusual quality.  He is PDD, no doubt, in some of his behaviors, but he also has a very strong spiritual sense about him.

bopeep - I feel that way about Fabian. He is the most peaceful relaxed child I have ever met. I do not doubt it that he is being protected by my FIL or my husbands grandparents. There are so many moments that he is just sitting somewhere looking at a toy then he looks up as if someone is standing in front of him and starts laughing histerically. The way we think it is since my FIL passed away before my kids were born and he never got to see them or knew about themm he is some how protecting them. I feel this way as well about my husband's grandmother. She protected DH like she was his mom when he was a child and to this day, whenever soemthing weird has gone on with the kids at night or something I feel this cold breath on my skin like someone was purposely breathing on my neck to force me to turn or at night certian shoves or pushes against my body to wake me up.

They are out there protecting thm.

Thanks!! I have often wondered. My fathers side of the family were "in tune" as they call it. I don't discuss it much with other people except my husband(who found out the hard way)and my family, most people think you're nuts if you talk about stuff like that. However one of my friends swares that the autism connection is also genetic with people who have a family history of physic or sensitivity in their family. Imagine me asking my ped this question: "do you think my son is autistic because my grandma saw dead people?" Social services would lock me up...seriously though, I have wondered about that.
