CJ travels five days a week after school to the public elementary school for resource room services with the special ed teacher. I pick him up in the school office after he's done there. One of the ladies in the office has candy in a jar on her desk, usually Smarties, which CJ loves. It has become routine for him to request a piece everyday when he comes to the office to meet me. I allow it, only because I really don't nede the meltdown that would ensue and also, I already deny him time on the playground which he would love to do as well. (I have to get back home to my daughter who watches the little one while I pick up CJ).

Well, I take care to avoid artficial dyes when I can. I know Smarties have them. One day a week, CJ attends a dance class an hour after I bring him home from the elementary school--an hour after he's ingested the Smarties. He is having issues in the dance class that weren't there last year (I've posted this under the parents section). Do you think the dyes or the sugar from the Smarties are causing him to be  non-compliant and funny acting while looking in the dance class mirror, which distracts him from what he's is supossed to be doing? Does it hit that quickly? I know for my daughter, Skittles can make her jumpy in her school classroom. (her teacher always knows when she's had candy it hits her in about 15 minutes).

I was thinkning on teh next dance class day of asking the school employee to remove all candy from he desk and instead give my son an approved fruit snack that I'd give to her. Then, I could see if his behavior changes in dance class that afternoon.

Does he eat a whole pack of smarties or just one or two. That makes the difference for my girl--she can't eat the whole pack.

Skittles...oh, my, can't even go there with her.

Yes, it's VERY common for dc to be unable to handle the colors.
