As some of you may have noticed, I haven't been posting much - I've been a little busy. (Major understatement here!).
I've been working on passing two referenda for our school district and running for school board. We accomplished all of those goals! And my kids helped - they went door-to-door with me for the referendum, they donated money out of their piggy banks to it, and gave up lots of mommy time so that I could go do what we needed to do. Our school district is very lean - we have no extra fluff. We made over $1 million in cuts in the last 5 years and our state revenue has decreased. It's a small school district - so $1 million is a LOT to our district.
Anyway, we passed both of them and I got elected. We'll have lots more challenges in the next several years - but now I at least feel like I will be able to have some say in how to approach things. And kids with special needs will have a voice - which I believe I'm the first parent of a child with special needs to ever be elected to our school board. I didn't campaign that way (I didn't campaign much at all, frankly) but a lot of the parents of special needs children knew who I was and voted for me.
I hope to be able to be on here more now - but for the next week or so, I'm going to try to take a break from some things. I have to go take care of my dad who is not doing well and we shall see what happens on that end.
Hope everyone is doing okay here!
(I edited this because I forgot the word "children" after "special needs" - I was typing too fast!)

That is soooooo awesome, Snoop! Congrats! I was wondering how your election turned out. I admire you for getting out there and doing something to better your school community and to give a voice to special needs children and their families.
Maybe someday I'll be in a position to do something like that!
I hope and pray things will turn around good for your Dad.
