There is always danger with any drug that you take and that is why parents need to research and consult with a doctor who has experience in treating heavy metal toxicity in children.
I do want clarify the issue with the boy in PA who passed away after the administration of EDTA. There is a definate distinction between sodium EDTA and Ca EDTA. The boy already had an underlying health problem and the doctor gave Sodium EDTA which is NOT what is commonly used for children with autism who suffer from certain metal toxicity. Sodium EDTA pulls Ca from the body and can result in cardiac arrest, which is also what happened to the 53yr old woman. It is doctor error because he or she did not take the precautions and do the necessary tests to ensure the patients were able to tolerate the treatments.
I have used DMSA with both my ASD kids and out of all the biomedical interventions, chelation was the one thing I saw the most results with. If you go to www.autism.com, you can check out he Autism Research Insitute's Parent survey. This is information that they have collected from parents over the years who have done biomed. Chelation is ranked at the top.
Anyway, I just wanted to provide the other side of the story so a parent can research and make an informed decision.
